Before we dive down the residual income rabbit hole together, I want to talk about a massive industry-wide problem that’s been stealing people’s dreams for decades.This is a highly controversial topic, but it’s something I feel needs to be candidly discussed. You see, each week over 175,000 people join a home-based business in the hopes of achieving time freedom and financial independence.Sadly though, the majority of them will never even earn a single check.Why is that?Well, some would say that it’s due to a lack of sales & marketing skills, lack of personal growth, lack of desire, not enough time, not enough effort, unrealistic expectations, quitting too soon, and the list goes on and on.And, while all of those are certainly contributing factors to failure, they don’t actually address the REAL culprit which goes much deeper than that.I’m referring to the actual ROOT of the problem; the underlying causes that are NOT being candidly talked about in the home business industry, but should be.The blunt observations I’m about to share with you are likely to piss off some leaders and companies in the network marketing industry. That’s because their business would be severely hurt if these dirty secrets got out there in a big way.The ugly truth is that tens of thousands of people who get involved in a business opportunity ― through no fault of their own ― become part of a huge market segment that’s being misled, manipulated, and exploited.We all know that Henry Ford is famous for the Ford automobile, but he didn’t invent the automobile. He invented the assembly line and created a company worth billions.
He understood a secret that dates back as far as Ancient Egypt:Great wealth is created by those who use leverage to duplicate success.
It was this enduring wealth-building principle that led me in 1997 to search for an income-generating vehicle that would allow me to do just that.At the time I was introduced to what seemed like a logical solution for me: network marketing. It’s often referred to as MLM or multi-level marketing, and it’s the most popular business model in the entire home business industry.I remember attending my first business opportunity meeting in a crowded little office space in Hollywood where this sharp looking guy in the front of the room drew circles on a whiteboard.There are moments in our lives when something is so profound that it just flat out hits us like a ton of bricks and we’re forever changed.Looking back, that meeting was where I had one of those “Aha” moments that I’ll never forget. It was the first time I really learned about LEVERAGE (something I never had in my career as a freelance artist).I was so excited that night that I signed up right on the spot. I really thought I’d found the Holy Grail of all business opportunities.Boy, was I naïve!Unfortunately, I spent the first couple of years getting beat up, bruised and scarred. Like most network marketing rookies, I struggled with the prospecting and marketing side of building the business, while my emotions ran the gamut between mad and frustrated.
